About Us
WHIPPOORWILL RANCH PECAN CO.
12505 Smith Road
Okmulgee, OK 74447
Owners: Kearby & Peggy Weatherly
Our pecans come from our own orchard, as well as from some of our
neighbors' orchards. After harvesting, our pecans are mechanically
cleaned, sized, sanitized, cracked, shelled, and hand inspected. They are
weighed and packaged in a heat-sealed tamper-resistant, plastic zip-top
bag. This assures our customers of a high quality, sanitary, and wholesome
product. We do not sell pecans that are produced in orchards where
livestock are grazed.
Shelled pecans may be frozen, and refrozen, without deterioration. If the temperature is maintained near zero degrees F they may be stored for years. Grocery store pecans are typically displayed at room temperature, which causes them to turn dark, and if left too long on the shelf they will develop a rancid smell and poor taste.
DELIVERY:
We sell pecans year-round at our on-farm store. We also sell by mail order and will ship to any location within the contiguous United States.

FAMILY STORY:
We purchased the farm in 1990. The orchard, which was planted in the thirties and forties, had not been maintained for twenty years. There were about 650 mature trees, many of which were in very poor condition. Briars and brush had grown up about many of them; there was serious soil erosion; there were numerous old cross fences that had rotted away and fallen down. Many of the trees had limbs that were literally lying on the ground for lack of pruning; there were countless holes and bogs throughout the orchard floor. Many of the trees were insect-infested and diseased; soil fertility was seriously deficient; weeds were shoulder high. It took almost a year of back breaking work just to clean up years worth of fallen limbs that had accumulated on the orchard floor. We created and burned a brush pile fifteen feet wide, ten feet high, and 300 feet long. We killed the briars, removed the old fences, filled the holes and gullies, corrected the fertility, got the insects under control and removed many unproductive trees.
That was then; today the orchard is a beautiful, valuable, and productive enterprise. We have built our business by offering a high quality product at reasonable prices and good service. We are well known throughout our area.
